Stockholm

As it was Martin´s birthday on friday, we thought we’ d spend the weekend in Stockholm. So that´s what we did: Friday to Sunday, Sweden.

at the airport: free champagne for every birthday child. yayy!

we heard that there was a snowstorm in stockholm. but the clouds looked very puffy.

actually it was pretty sunny

as we approached sweden you could see: it is definitely still winter there.

Welcome!

on our way to the hotel

which was a former prison

with pretty cosy cells

after checking in we made our way from our station (everything in sweden just sounds funny like HORNSTULL) to get some decent swedish birthday food.

and we found some at pelikan

starting with traditional bread and butter

followed by 3 kinds of herring

and the main dish: kötbullar, not the tiny ikea ones. needless to say, the birthdaychild was pretty full afterwards.

i also got some delicious stuff: red beet something, spinach, grilled goat cheese, pumpkin and pine nuts.

saturday morning: waking up behind barred windows or as we say in german "schwedische gardinen"

starting the day with a walk around the neighbourhood

having breakfast

in the sun

and strolling around again

despite the sun it was pretty cold. that´s why a lot of dogs wore coats.

this sign says "beach"- yeah, well..

this says " i dont know what" (but it looks creepy)

another thing on the list: visit nostalgiepalast

why, you ask?

it´s the biggest record store in stockholm..

it looks like someone got caught buying records!

later on it was my turn: cute dogs in boutiques

sweets,

sweets with funny names

meeting trolls (me having sweets in my mouth)

and even more sweets!

oh, and did i mention there were sweets?

but not only sweets (and swedes), also nice houses we saw

as we approached the old part of the city (it was also pretty cold)

the sun went down and it got even colder

and well...

there was a decent sunset

a snowy city

and more pretty houses

and one picture showing both of us looking weird.

there were boats as well

and an all you can eat vegetarian buffet!

on the last day we only had two hours left to spend

there was a flea market

and martin found himself a pictures with a bomber plane on it. year 1977. had to buy.

we also bought some crisp bread

swedish monarchy chocolate for grandma

and they have snus vendors in supermarkets

as well as cigarettes, papers and condom vendors.

so much for the shopping

after that we took the fast train to the airport

passed the winter scenery

and the blue skies

to go up up and away. destination: vienna the grey.
